Once you get settled in the boat we depart headed for good bait fishing grounds. Bait fishing is done by you, the angler. We use light tackle to catch jacks, lady-fish and barracudas to use for chum and live/dead bait with spin fishing rods and light lures. Its fun and part of the circle of life.
All of our shark fishing and bait fishing is done in the backcountry waters of Key West. That means you are protected and out of the wind and waves. Sharks love to hang out around mangrove islands and the edges of flats in less than 5 feet of water. This is were we fish for them. There is no chance of sea sickness.
NOTE: Although we are always in the hunt for fresh bait, we always carry some frozen shark bait as well for backup. Through feed back on this trip we have found our anglers enjoy catching the fresh live bait as an added bonus to the shark fishing adventure. We Do Not spend more time than needed to catch bait.
After the bait is caught and we dont see any sharks yet (rare when catching bait) we move to our proven grounds then its GAME ON. We chum - they come.. you can see the whole thing happen just a few feet in front of you. Using 30 lb test conventional rods from DAIWA you will be well equipped to handle whatever happens. Hook up on a big one and we will use the boat to follow him till you wear him out.
Results Vary - Depending on conditions, anglers skill and the nature of fishing, its not uncommon to hook up 4 or more large sharks on this trip. For the kids we pursue bonnet head sharks where the action is fast and fun. |
